ABOUT THE GOOD PERSON ON THE BAG:
Tomo! I met Tomo while he was living in Perth and working at Giant Coffee in Northbridge. Tomo was visiting from Japan and his love of coffee was accelerated by working wish such a high calibre group of people.
Tomo would always ask lots of questions about coffee roasting and eventually started coming to the roastery after his Saturday shift at Giant. A critical mind, a curious eye, and a keen palate. We cupped some new samples one day and Tomo immediately was drawn to this beautiful Kenyan Washed. We ordered a couple boxes of the coffee that night and a month later, it was ready for release.
Despite the coffee getting delayed and arriving JUST after Tomo went back to Japan, he's been hooked up by one of his friends doing some travelling and managed to get a few bags to himself.
He picked good. This is a bloody banger example of a Kenyan Washed.
THE GOOD PEOPLE BEHIND THE COFFEE:
The Kainamui factory serves about 1,800 smallholder coffee farmers who are members of the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society, about 600 of whom are women. The smallholders own an average of 200 trees on less than half a hectare of land. Farmers in the area grow gravellea, macadamia nuts, eucalyptus, tea, corn, and bananas in addition to coffee. The factory receives field visits from agricultural ministers and agro-companies who offer training programs. The F.C.S. also provides prefinancing for farmers to allow them to pay school fees, production costs, and in case of emergencies.
