ABOUT THE GOOD PERSON ON THE BAG:
We had a coffee called "31 in 31" earlier this year where we donated $20 of each kilo sold to charity and the coffee sold so fast that we never actually got to release it.
The coffee helped to raise money through an incredible effort (some would say stupid? Risky? Inhumane?) of running an entire marathon every single day for an entire month. Jesse dedicated an entire month of 2026 (and the usefulness and effectiveness of his joints when he gets older) to achieve this insane feat, raising over $70,000 for charity and smashing his initial target of $31,000.
Because we never got to properly release that coffee, we've followed it up with this one!
Jesse has a determination, capacity for work, and motivation to achieve rarely seen. There's almost no challenge that Jesse couldn't best if he really set his mind to it. He has a heart of gold and a brain of lead (with love).
THE GOOD PEOPLE BEHIND THE COFFEE:
The Kirorero washing station serves about 2012 smallholder producers in the areas of Boneza and Musasa, about 800 of whom are women farmers. The communities of Gisiza, Remera, Kinunga, Buhoro, and Nkira contribute to the washing station. It is run by Coopérative pour la Promotion des Activités Café or COOPAC. This washing station is remote, only accessible by boat after an hour-and-a-half drive down the lake. Tucked in the steep walls of the Gasuma valley right at lake level, Kirorero receives coffee from 1511 farmers. Some coffee arrives by boat and the rest on foot or bicycle, since they do not have direct access via road. This of course means that all processed coffee must be consolidated and make the journey up the lake by boat to Nyamwenda CWS where it’s trucked out to the main access point.
